Vennel's Café

Vennel's Café, in the centre of Durham, is a hidden gem, accessible from one of two small alleys which lead off Saddler Street (the road from the Market Square to Durham Cathedral). A great place to meet friends for a cup of tea and a generous portion of cake, or even something a bit more susbtantial, Vennel's is close to La Tasca and the Shakespeare.

A vennel is a dark alley in the Geordie dialect, apparently.

Great cake, sometimes gets *really* busy though.
