This was the worst restaurant ever!!!!!!! Waited over an hour for a side dish to come out- they kept sending wrong drinks and wrong food to the table. Then when we simply asked about where the rest of our food and drinks were the rude owner shouted in our faces that he has 350 people so tough (no sorrys whatsoever). He was pointing and being very aggressive telling us thats the way he is if we didnt like the service to get out now. food was average- wont be going back and I suggest anyone thinking of going goes somewhere better which shouldnt be too difficult. If that man is the owner (he refused to give his name) then if he cant change his behaviour he shouldn't be allowed in contact with humans he obvioulsy couldn't cope with the situation - Ive worked in a busy restaurant and InShanghai did everything possible wrong!

My partner and I visit Inshanghai quite frequently for lunch and evening meals, never a problem, food and coffee always hot and fresh..... The excellent and attentive service begins from the moment you enter the door until the time you leave.Warm and relaxing atmosphere,Marvelous food... I would say it's the best Chinese restaurant in Durham.

sorry to hear about the person's biased comment. I have been to many Chinese restaurants and to be honest, i think Inshanghai is the best. I like its warm service, its beautiful view through the window, and its good atmosphere inside. I like to go there at weekends with my friends, and the side dishes are very quick and hot. If you are sent the wrong drinks, I think it is inevitable for every restaurant. But they will change for you politely and quickly. Just be a little bit more patient. It is a very good place for parties and u can c people like holding parties there. If you wanna find a table at weekends, do not forget to book at first, coz Ive been there with no tables several times at weekends without booking in advance. Fortunately, the owner always talk to us warmly, and offer a seat when we are waiting. I respect the owner who can organize the restaurant so well even in rush hours and he always help the waiters to collect the used dishes and offer drinks by himself.

I agree with the person upstairs. I have been to Inshanghai for quite a lot of times and don’t think their service has a problem. Their side dishes or drinks never have to be waited for more than 15 minutes even at rush hours. The food there is tasty and the service is perfect. Maybe they did send the wrong food or drinks, but I am sure they will make it right as soon as possible. Don’t be so picky. It happens to every restaurant. I have to say that I feel warm and cosy every time having meal in that restaurant. And I did talk to the owner for a couple of times. He is a nice and friendly person even though he looks tough sometimes. It is unbelievable that the guy describe the owner in this way. Anyway, it’s a lovely restaurant and I will go there from time to time.

I visit this restaurant at least twice a week. The reason I like it is the decent interior and relaxed atmosphere. Not like other Chinese buffet restaurants which are merely places offer a seat and a table and food, you can really enjoy your meal time there. The manager is nice. The waiters always serve with smile. I just like to go there!

Awful!!! Nice decor completely ruined by bad service. The manager is incredibly rude, and when we asked him to be a little more polite he threw us out! The food may be good, but don't bother going if you want to be treated like a human being.

Rude, sarcastic, confrontational "owner" who clearly has an attitude problem. Always enjoyed going there since before it changed from The Elephant. In the last 4 months since the manager/owner took charge, the standard of service has seriously depleted. He would rather throw out loyal paying customers and 1 pensioner, than apologise for the way he speaks to his customers/staff in front of the whole restaurant. Your spirit guide obviously hasn't taught you any manners, has he Derek Acorah?

went for a family meal 24-01-2009 ordered 4 meals and only 2 arrived asked on 2 occasions for the other 2 to be brought the waitress was pleasant and asked us to wait 5 more minutes which we did and asked again. this time the manager came who took the first order , before we could say a word he was very abrupt and aggressive stating we had only ordered 2 not 4 . He continued to be aggressive and rude and insistent that it was us that was wrong . We got up and went to leave and he continued to be aggressive whilst we paid the bill , including calling for the doorman , we were on a family night out not a stag night . we have been several times and on 2 previous occasions we had to remind them that the food was awaited , but his aggressive nature means we will not be back

I have been to this restaurant on many occassions, and have enjoyed food and surroundings every time until the last time when we encountered the manager. This man should be in another line of work, he is rude and confrontational and spoiled our dining experience. Perhaps the role of a lighthouse keeper would be better suited to his personal demeanor and people skills.
