Oldfields Restaurant, near Rock 'n' Amigos, on Claypath in Durham (near the Loveshack nightclub and The Bishops' Mill. Whilst perhaps a bit costly for a student budget (even fish and chips is £13!), the food is generally acceptable (although it could be a lot better) and service good.
There is also an Oldfields Restaurant in Newcastle.
