The College of St Hild & Bede (often abbreviated to ‘Hild Bede’), of the University of Durham, is the university’s largest college (Collingwood College is the second largest), with over 1,000 members. Neither a hill or a bailey college (the college is on the Durham peninsula), the college was formed with the merging of two single-sex teacher-traning colleges in 1975.
St Hild & St Bede College does not have a Junior Common Room (JCR) – rather, it has a Student Representative Committee (SRC). Roger Moore, the actor famous for playing secret agent James Bond, was a member of St Hild & St Bede, although he never graduated.
