Durham’s top restaurants for Graduation Meals

It’s that time of year again: exams are (almost) a thing of the past, and you’re (hopefully) about to graduate from Durham University.

So, where should you go for a graduation meal with your parents in Durham? You’re very likely celebrating 3 years of hard work (and the odd night at Klute, no doubt!), so your graduation meal should be a true feast. Especially if you’re parents are paying…

Oro at The Pumphouse, Durham

Just outside the hustle of Durham City and the science site campus of Durham University, Oro at the Pumphouse is a hidden gem serving “pizza free” Italian food. Situated in some beautiful grounds, Oro delivers on food, drink and atmosphere – a good choice to impress your parents.

And once you’re done, it’s a short walk to the New Inn and the Victoria Inn to show your parents where you’ve really been spending all of your lecture time.

Zizzi’s, Durham

A cheaper choice than Oro, but in equally fantastic surroundings on Saddler Street in Durham City, Zizzi’s is among the busy-ness of the city itself. Part of the Italian chain restaurant, Zizzi delivers good Italian-style dishes from pizza and pasta to meats and fish in a modern environment.

Fat Hippo, Durham

Burger and chips: what could be wrong with that for your graduation dinner? Fat Hippo is an upmarket burger joint (there’s a few branches in Newcastle, too) – expect great, filling food and a surprisingly large range of burgers and toppings.

Who wouldn’t want a blue cheese burger and sweet potato fries for their graduation dinner? Heathens, that’s who.

Fat Buddha, Durham

We see a recurring theme with our pick of restaurant names! Fat Buddha is in Durham’s Walkergate complex (near the Gala Cinema), and serves Asian-fusion style food and a great range of cocktails. And, of course, it’s really handy to witness some embarassing dad-dancing in Loveshack after your meal.
