Whether you’re after a quiet pint in the sun or pub grub in the warm comfort of a fire’s glow, there are plenty of pubs in Durham City itself, but what about the pubs just outside Durham?
If you fancy a change of landscape (well, OK then – change of bar!), here are our top picks for pubs on Durham’s outskirts.
Stone Bridge Inn
The Stone Bridge Inn (Stonebridge, Durham, DH1 3RX) just outside Durham beyond Neville’s Cross, is situated next to the A690 to the west of Durham city centre.
You can expect a spacious pub with a decent selection of beers and spirits, and some great “home made” food choices with generous portions.
The Garden House
The Garden House (Framwellgate, Durham, DH1 4NQ) is set in an old coaching inn just up the hill from Durham Railway Station and The Station House micropub.
We found great food, friendly staff and a good range of beers set in a tranquil, spacious pub.
