50p Night | Studio, Tuesdays
Studio nightclub holds a ’50p night’ every Tuesday, with entry only costing 50 pence and many drinks on offer for the same price.
Happy Hours in Durham
Many restaurants in Durham operate a ‘happy hour’, with discounted meals at restaurants such as La Spaghettata (Fabio’s).
- Half price pizza and pasta between 17:00-19:00 every night at Bella Pasta.
- Half price pizza and pasta between 17:00-19:00 every weeknight at Brown Sugar.
- Emilio’s has discounted pizza and pasta between 12:00 and 18:30 on weekdays.
Klute Nights | Klute
Some Durham colleges have their own ‘Klute night’ (surprisingly held in Klute), with discounted entry to members of the college associated with the night. Castle night is a Thursday, whilst Collingwood College’s Klute night is a Wednesday – contact your college’s ents secretary for more details.
A (Cheap) Pub Crawl
As a student haven, Durham has quite a number of cheap pubs, all within a reasonable walk of each other (like most things in Durham). Starting at The Swan & Three on Elvet Bridge (opposite Emilio’s and across the bridge from Klute and Chase Bar & Lounge), you could work your way (in no particular order) to The Colpitts Hotel via the Wetherspoons’ pubs on North Road, The Water House, and in the Walkergate Complex, The Bishops’ Mill (where if you drink the right beer, it’s often £1.49 a pint, and some drinks are also cheap).
A hill college bar crawl (or even a a bailey college bar crawl) is reasonably cheap, with most college bars charging around £1.50 for a pint of beer and around £1.20 for a glass of wine – and, even better, if you are moderate in your alcohol consumption, soft drinks are usually around 25p each (often free during alcohol awareness campaigns)!
